Sustainable energy supply for Progroup’s corrugated board plant

Progroup is one of the largest producers of corrugated base paper and corrugated board formats on the European market. The new “PW15” corrugated board plant in Petersberg, near Pirmasens in the Palatinate, requires sustainably sourced energy in the form of steam, chilled water and heating energy for production.

AGO GmbH Energie + Anlagen from Kulmbach was commissioned by Progroup to supply and install the technical equipment and piping systems. This includes the supply of steam, compressed air, chilled water and heating water, as well as the complete ventilation technology, including heat recovery systems. This marks the fourth time within Europe that AGO GmbH has been commissioned by Progroup for this scope of work and supply.

Steam is generated by a dual-fired boiler capable of delivering 10 t/h of saturated steam at a pressure of 15.0 bar. The steam is used for the production and bonding of the adhesive for the corrugated board in the production line of the corrugator. An absorption chiller, which generates 700 kW of cooling capacity – sufficient to meet the cooling requirements of the corrugator – is operated via a steam converter or, alternatively, via two CHP units.

Due to complex adjustments during the construction process, this required extremely sophisticated coordination of the logistics.
