University of Bayreuth WKZ North

To supply the university campus in Bayreuth, the “North Heating and Cooling Plant” was expanded as part of an iCHP project.

To this end, a natural gas CHP unit generates electricity for the public grid and feeds heat into the university campus’s “90 °C heating network”.

Two heat pumps were installed to supply the “50 °C heating network”. The energy required to operate the heat pumps is drawn from the ambient air using two recooling systems.

Technical data:

  • CHP plant: 3,360 kWel / 3,168 kWth
  • 2 heat pumps: 680 kWth each
  • 2 recoolers: 531 kWth each
