AGO opens a new production facility for industrial high-temperature heat pumps in Kulmbach

Kulmbach, 1 February 2023:

Since 1 February 2023, AGO has been manufacturing its newly developed high-temperature heat pumps in its state-of-the-art production facility in Kulmbach. With a production area of over 700 m², the plan is initially to build up to 25 large heat pumps per year.

AGO has developed the world’s first high-temperature heat pump based on the natural refrigerant pair of ammonia and water, capable of supplying heat up to 150 °C. This patented heat pump solution enables CO₂-free heat supply on an industrial scale of approximately 0.5 megawatts to approximately 10 megawatts per heat pump, with exceptionally high efficiency.
Heat demand in industry and also in district heating supply is often at temperatures well above 100 °C and has so far been met almost exclusively by the combustion of fossil fuels. In future, these hot and superheated water boiler systems are to be replaced – where possible – by high-temperature heat pumps powered by green electricity.

The cutting-edge Bavarian technology developed by AGO is a key component in the transformation of municipal and industrial heat supply in Germany.
